Cluster Initialization

The cluster is created on the first node (Fudo Enterprise instance). Data from this node will be copied to the remaining nodes that belong to the cluster.

Warning

  • Proper cluster operation requires configuring the NTP time server on all cluster nodes. It is recommended to configure the same NTP servers on all nodes.

  • Make sure that the license allows cluster creation. If not, upload the appropriate license (the cluster node limit must be greater than or equal to the number of nodes after cluster expansion).

  • Ensure that port 65522 is open between the node addresses dedicated to cluster communication.

To initialize a Fudo Enterprise cluster, follow the instructions below.

  1. From the left menu, select Settings > Cluster.

  2. Go to the CREATE CLUSTER tab.

  1. Enter a name for the node being created and a description to help identify it.

  1. From the Bind address drop-down list, select the local IP address that this node will use for outbound cluster traffic (replication). Select Any to let the node choose the outbound address automatically.

Note

  • The bind address must be configured on one of this node’s network interfaces and have the General function assigned in the network settings.

  • In the example below, the same IP address is used as for the Administrative Panel. However, the cluster communication address may belong to a different subnet and be assigned to a different interface.

  1. Specify the address that the other cluster nodes will use to reach this node:

    • Leave the Use bind address as node address option selected (default) when the bind address is directly reachable by the other nodes. The Node address field is then filled in automatically and cannot be edited.

    • Clear the Use bind address as node address option when the other nodes reach this node through a different address - for example when there is NAT in front of Fudo Enterprise. Then enter that address (e.g. the public or NAT-translated address) in the Node address field.

Note

Separating the node address from the bind address prevents replication failures in NAT environments, where the address that other nodes use to reach this node does not exist on the node’s local interfaces and therefore cannot be used as the outbound (bind) address.

  1. Click Save to initialize the cluster.

The next step in configuring the cluster environment is to add additional node(s) to the cluster. Proceed to the Adding Cluster Nodes section.
